I didn’t know there were twenty thousand vegans on tumblr!!!

You can be against animal cruelty and not be a vegan

No, that just makes you a hypocrite

No, it just means you support humane practices. Meat =/= animal cruelty.

How exactly is neglecting, abusing, and then killing an animal not animal cruelty?? Please explain.

Because not all livestock animals are neglected or abused, and are humanely killed? I don’t buy meat from grocery stores because I don’t want to support large factory farms that do neglect or abuse their animals, which are the sources for most large chains. However, it is possible to find humanely sourced meat. Support small, local farms. Research before you purchase. Some farms will even let you visit and see where the animals live and how they’re treated. These animals live healthy lives and are well kept, and when slaughter time comes they are killed quickly and without suffering. Supporting humane treatment of animals is not negated because you eat bacon.

I love how every single person who eats meat gets it from a “local farm”. You cannot humanely kill something. You simply cannot do it. And it doesnt matter how well the animal is supposedly treated in the short years before they die, the fact of the matter is that they are still being needlessly killed, which is cruel. The overwhelming majority of meat, especially in first world countries, comes from large scale farms. And even of everyone actually got their meat from caring, local farms like they all say they do, even local farms kill animals at barely a quarter of their natural life span. Even local farms steal babies away from their mothers. Even local farms slit the throats of animals and let them bleed out. That is just how it is done. Dying is not pleasant and is not painless or “humane” for these animals. That bacon you mentioned- had more mental capacity than your pets do. Cows, chickens, pigs, goats, sheep, horses, all of them are sentient. All of them feel fear. All animals that are farmed are subjected to cruelty. Lets say that even if these local farms used gas chambers (one of the supposed less painful methods of killing things) say someone who owns a dog gases it and eats it. Thats considered animal cruelty. That person would likely serve jail time. Why is it ANY different with farm animals? Why is it okay to kill one animal, but not the other? Even if it is the same method, for the exact same reason? I’ll tell you why: because a group of humans have deemed one tasty and one cute. And that is disgusting, cruel, and hypocritical.

Do you just like to regurgitate anything PETA has ever said?
One of the most common ways animals are slaughtered is with a bolt gun. A bolt is shot directly into the animal’s brain and it is killed instantly. A humane way to die. You can argue against the killing of animals, but don’t say its ‘inhumane’ when the truth is that you just don’t like that an animal has died.
Fun tangent: Is owning an obligate carnivore (dogs, cats, a large number of herps, etc) considered animal cruelty as well? Because if the death of any animal is animal cruelty and abuse, then no one should own an obligate carnivore. And no, you can not make these animal ‘vegan.’ The key word in “obligate carnivore” is the word obligate.

Why do people like this assume everyone on Earth is even capable of adopting a vegan lifestyle? Choosing to be vegan means you have a choice about what you eat. People have dietary and digestive issues that necessitate animal protein, and amazingly not everyone in the world can drive to Whole Foods and pick up some soy dogs and a bottle of B12.
Livestock is not being “needlessly killed”, people NEED to eat meat. Yeah it sucks that living beings have to die so that we can survive but welcome to the last 3 billion years of existence.

So in the end if a human kills another human and eats, it is a crime and if and animal kills an animal and eats it it’s the circle of life.Veggies don’t give us all the nutrients we need and the the most essential ones are found on animals all at once. Let’s not judge just because someone is able to survive on veggies alone not everyone can do that and many have gotten sick trying. Let’s not be hipocrites ok? We are also part of the circle of life.
